Reunification Communications

Emergency Reunification

There are a wide variety of emergency situations that might require West Woodland to activate a student/parent reunification plan. A student/parent reunification may be needed if the school is evacuated or closed due to a hazardous materials transportation accident, fire, natural gas leak, flooding, earthquake, tsunami, school violence, bomb threat, terrorist attack or other local hazard.

Whenever possible West Woodland will perform reunification at our school. In the event reunification cannot occur at school due to proximity of the unsafe situation, reunification will happen at Ballard High School.

How will parents be notified?

Notification will be sent to parents via email, robo-call, and text messages. Please do not call the school. Phone lines must stay open.

What if a Parent Can’t Pick-up Their Student?

When a parent can’t immediately go to the reunification site, students will only be released to individuals previously identified as a student’s emergency contact. Otherwise, the school will hold students until parents can pick up their student.

How does the West Woodland reunification process work?

  1. Proceed to Check-In: When you arrive at West Woodland, please proceed directly to the North Sidewalk of our school, near the Teacher’s parking lot. A check-in station will be set up in this location. If this location isn?t suitable, signage or staff will direct you to an alternate location on the WW campus.
  2. Have your ID Ready: At the check-in station, you will be required to show your photo identification and fill out a student release form. Students will only be released to an adult previously identified as a student?s emergency contact with photo ID. Once you have done this, you will be given a green bracelet which indicates that you have been properly identified and have filled out a release form.
  3. Wait in Reunification Area: While you wait in the reunification area in the staff parking lot, a staff member will retrieve your child/children from the Student Supervision area and will bring your child directly to you.
  4. Your child meets you in the Reunification Area
  5. Sign/Time back of Student Release Form: Once you have been reunited with your child, you will be asked to sign a student release form again. This completes the student release process.

Parent Responsibilities

  • Understand that no child will be allowed to go home alone. Students will only be released to an authorized adult
  • Make sure your emergency contacts are current
  • Please share the reunification plan with your emergency contacts
  • Understand that there will be wait time as we follow this process

West Woodland Elementary School is committed to providing a safe environment for students and staff. We take emergency preparedness very seriously and work throughout the year to purchase supplies, write emergency plans and train staff so that in the event of an actual emergency, we are well prepared and your children are protected.
