Music

West Woodland offers a vibrant, hands-on music program that engages every student and strengthens our school community.

General Music for All Students

All students receive instruction from our full-time music teacher, Mr. Miller.

  • Classes meet twice a week for at least 35 minutes each.
  • Curriculum includes basic musical literacy—rhythm, beat, pitch, melody, dynamics, tempo, note values, and music notation—along with singing, simple instruments or games, music history, composition, diverse musical genres, & world music.
  • Upper-grade students learn recorder and ukulele as part of their regular music instruction.

Before-School Choirs

West Woodland offers two before-school choirs, both led by Donna Brodland:

  • Cub Choir (K–2)
  • Wildcat Choir (3–5)

Both choirs perform in winter and spring concerts and school assemblies. The Wildcat Choir has also performed at exciting local events, like singing at the University Village, Seattle Mariners, Reign, and Storm.

5th graders may join our instrumental music program taught by Julia Gendrich, which meets during the school day and performs at the West Woodland Spring Music Concert. Students may choose Strings, Woodwinds, or Brass. More details are provided to families at the beginning of the year.
