    Our West Woodland PTA is proud to offer a variety of fun and exciting Enrichment Programs for our students. Classes are optional and are held before or after school on a seasonal basis (Fall, Winter, Spring) with the exception of a few year-long programs (Chess, Choir, CDL). There are no classes held during school holidays, early dismissal days, or weather closures. Classes are available to West Woodland students only.

    Before registering, please read our Enrichment Policies. You will be asked to agree to these policies when registering.

    Want a free class for your student?
    Free classes are available to Enrichment Assistant Volunteers. Volunteer once a week after school for 10 - 25 minutes (8 - 10 week commitment). Contact Elise Knox at wwdenrichment@gmail.com if interested.

    Adventure Survival with Linus Needer of Universe LabsAdventure Survival
    with Linus Needer of Universe Labs

    Adventure Survival is a tabletop role playing game created for elementary school students. What will your character be? A talking hamster? A unicorn that shoots rainbows? A care bear? A robot shark? Come create a character, roll the dice and see what fate has in store. With no weapons in the game, players focus on puzzle solving, team work, social awareness and math skills. Students will take home their own set of dice, rule booklet and some truly amazing tales of adventure and survival in a fantastical world.

    with Creative Coding 4 Kids

    Make the games you want to play! Our standard class for grades 3-5 is open to all experience levels. Students will bring their own ideas for the games and animations they wish to create, and our teachers will guide them towards their goals. A variety of challenges will supplement each coder's own projects, which they'll get to show in a presentation at the end of the class!

    Beginners will spend the first few lessons learning the basics of coding and how to use Scratch before diving into their own projects. Our classic Creative Coding experience is designed to be repeated as many times as desired, as each student continues to hone their skills through the individual assistance of our awesome instructors!     Japanese 102Japanese 102

    West Woodland Japanese 102 is designed for returning students who have mastered first 50 characters called "Hiragana" in Japanese 101. In this quarter, we will learn how to write and pronounce another 50 character set called "Katakana". Once you have mastered those characters, you can technically pronounce all Japanese words. This course would be good prerequisite for any advanced Japanese classes in the future. We will also cover Japanese culture/subculture information through fun activities. Japanese snacks will be provided.

    Zumba KidsZumba Kids
    with Venessa

    Grab your friends and let's dance like no one is watching! Zumba® Kids classes are rockin', high energy dance fitness parties packed with kid-friendly routines. We break down the steps, add games, activities, and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Kids jam out and dance to music from top charts and from around the world with age appropriate, easy to follow dance steps. Zumba® Kids help develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, and cultural awareness.

    We will begin the hour with a warm-up, dance, play a dance game, "travel" to a country to learn/practice the regional dance styles, and we will end class with a stretch/cool down. Following our last class of the program, we will have a party/showcase for parents,friends, and family.

    Break it, fix it, build it, just make something awesome. In the Hacker Power Hour students will build projects they can take home as well as figure out ways to repurpose and upcycle old items. Students will not only learn some basic electronics and computing, but they will take home creative problem solving skills. Materials included; students must provide their own sense of curiosity.

    West Woodland Japanese 201 is designed for returning students who have mastered both "Hiragana" and "Katakana" in previous classes. In this quarter, this course will introduce basic 50 Chinese characters called "Kanji". We also work on practicing short dialogs and gaining vocabulary skills.     Piano PlaygroundPiano Playground

    The curriculum for this fun and interactive piano group class is a balance between note-reading, music terms and theory, healthy technique, ear training, ensemble playing, and creative composition. This class will emphasize note-reading literacy by having students read from the bass and treble clefs regularly as they learn fun and enjoyable pieces. In addition to learning notes on the grand staff, students will also learn songs by popular artists such as Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, and from movies such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. Students will have invigorating and varied lessons which will include music theory games, learning new pieces, and exploring their own musical ideas through expressive improvisation exercises. The class is intended for beginning students who have little to no experience playing piano.

    Bienvenidos a Spanish Club! My name is Courtney Butorac and I am a teacher here at West Woodland. I have been teaching Spanish Club for 11 years now and I use song, art, play and dance to teach Spanish skills. I also teach about different cultures that speak Spanish and we have a fiesta each semester. I love teaching Spanish and one of my main goals is to spread the love of foreign languages and cultures.     A World of Color
    with Kids Create

    In this series, we will explore a variety of materials as we create felt stuffies, shrinky dink trinkets, stick yarn puppets, and design our own coloring books. Students will create bold line drawings, while using various artistic techniques to add color. (salt painting, pastel/ water color, tape painting)

    Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy…sewing! No experience necessary for boys and girls to learn the basics and beyond. New students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. The class will begin with a simple project, then students will advance at their own pace to more exciting and challenging projects throughout the session. This class is designed to teach children with both beginning and advanced skills. Projects, which are constantly rotating during the quarter, include backpacks, phone cases, clothing, accessories, bags, games, stuffed animal and more!

    Magic the Gathering with EXP
    (Enrichment Experience Project)

    Cast powerful spells, play fantastic creatures and have fun with *Magic the Gathering. Our enrichment program reinforces essential development skills: reading and comprehension, critical thinking, sentiment and valuation, planning, strategy, sportsmanship and math. Students are provided all the materials and gaming cards needed to learn, grow and develop their skills. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge or investment to join and have fun. Experienced or returning players are encouraged to join and refine their skills against challenging instructors. Students will be given decks based on their interests and discover new cards over the sessions to change their decks as their skills develop and they invest in their own unique strategies. Students will have fun learning to play, will refine their skills, build multiple decks in casual and competitive formats and leave with the life skills to continue to learn and grow independently.

    *What is Magic the Gathering (MTG)?
    Magic the Gathering is a strategy card game where you challenge your friends using decks that you construct in your own personal way. You cast powerful spells, play fantastic creatures and have fun. The game is dynamic as new cards and abilities are released through the year. There are many different ways to play, different decks to build and ways to win.

    Printmaking & Paper CraftsPrintmaking & Paper Crafts

    Relief printing, monoprints and stamping are just a few of the techniques we explore as the kids create original works of art by transferring ink to a surface. We will experiment with different methods on paper, cloth, wood & cardboard...it can be just about anything, as long as it's more or less flat. Then we will use the prints to make hand-bound books, inventive cards, frame-worthy works of art, wearable pieces such as a scarf, t-shirt or bag. The kids will walk away with an expanded knowledge of printing techniques & product design.

    Shrek JrShrek Jr
    with Seattle's Performers

    Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona's love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way. This class is 20 weeks long so make sure that you register for both sessions! We will also be including full sets and costumes for this fantastical tale! You won't want to miss out!

    Intro to Musical Theater with Seattle's Performers

    Follow the yellow brick road as we join Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, the Lion, Toto, Glinda, The Wicked Witch and of course munchkins through several great Oz adventures. Musical theatre songs Merry Old Land of Oz, Ease On Down the Road and Somewhere Over the Rainbow will be explored.     Expand your imagination and let's get creative! This class with explore different techniques in fiber arts! The theme will change between textile art, including knitting, weaving, dying, bleach printing and paper crafts, which will be comprised of paper making, Fiber marbling, paper stars, pop up-books, stamp making, flip books, scratch boards, papier-mâché and screen printing. We'll also have specialty projects for the holidays. This class is designed to include students with both basic and advanced skills and we rotate the projects every quarter.

    ParkourParkour
    with Kong Academy

    Parkour is the ability to move fluidly through your environment from one place to another. In this class, children will safely learn to progress through the basic parkour movements of: jumping, vaulting, climbing, swinging, balancing, and rolling. This class builds strength, balance, and coordination all while safely growing your kids' ability to engage and conquer their environment, and overcoming obstacles both physically and mentally.
