West Woodland PTA Mission Statement

The West Woodland Parent Teacher Association (PTA) enriches the educational experience for all students and encourages increased engagement among students, parents, teachers, staff and administrators of West Woodland Elementary School.

Join the PTA
You can help. Membership dues fund PTA legislative action networks and our school.  Membership Forms are available on the All Forms page.

Volunteer!
Here is a list of volunteer opportunities and job descriptions

The PTA promotes volunteering to make the many enrichment opportunities go forward. Volunteers are needed to help in the classroom, to organize events, and projects. Your generous gift of time can happen at home or at school.. Please contact the committee chair or visit with our Volunteer coordinator Karen Oboy, for further ways to help the school community.

Fundraising
The Annual Appeal and the Gala are the two primary fundraising events, organized by parent volunteers, that support the entire PTA budget. The budget is directly influenced by feedback from the spring parent/staff  survey.

Here is a brief list of items the PTA supports:
  • West Woodland Elementary Grants which help fill budget shortfalls in 2012 / 2013 so we can retain  learning specialists and tutors
  • Arts Friday - Bringing music and visual arts to all students at West Woodland
  • Teacher Grants your teacher uses to purchase additional educational supplies and experiences for our children
  • Funding for field trips and field trip scholarships
  • Assemblies
  • Library Books
  • Instrumental Music and Recorders program
  • Computer Lab, staff, and equipment
  • Parent Education and speakers at PTA meetings
  • WW family events through the year – International Potluck, Blast, & more
For more on Fundraising see the Fundraising Page.

Legislative Awareness
We work to keep our community abreast of issues related to education and funding at the local, state, and national level through the work of our legislative action committee.

Community Input

The PTA encourages input from the community to enhance the experiences at West Woodland. Here are a few methods to do so.
  • Visit with a PTA board / staff member.
  • Join the WW Parents Newsgroup. This is an open forum of West Woodland parents and alumni.
  • Attend PTA Meetings. See the calendar for dates.

How your Vote Can Improve Schools:
Our West Woodland PTA legislative group works to keep our community aware of public policy issues that affect schools.

If you have any questions about issues with the school district or the state legislature regarding education bills and funding, feel free to contact West Woodland's Legislative Co-Chairs: To Be Announced.  Our legislative chairs report to the West Woodland community about education issues via the WWparents Yahoo Group noted on this page, at PTA board meetings, and at PTA General Meetings.

The Washington State Legislature will convene in the spring.  Legislators need to hear from parents, teachers and staff about our priorities in regard to education.
