Kick off Bike to School Month at the Bike Rodeo!
Bike Rodeo provides a fun way to learn about safe cycling, get your
helmet fitted and your bike checked, meet a famous cyclist and win cool
stuff! Come on down next Sunday, May 3 from 1 - 4 PM on the playground,
and join us!!
Come join us for the kick-off to bike to school month. We have a lot of new and exciting things this year including:
- Bike Works - will be present to collect bikes
for under-served youth. Give an old bike new life and support community
programming at Bike Works! Bike Works accepts all types of bikes, bike
parts and bike accessories. BMX and kids bikes in good condition are in
high need. Please consider bringing any unused bikes to the rodeo to
donate to Bike Works in exchange for a tax write-off for 2015 and a good
feeling in your heart! www.bikeworks.org
- Jennie Reed –
Olympic Silver Medalist Cyclist and World Champion. Jennie will be on
hand to discuss what it takes to be an Olympic athlete and talk about
cycling on the velodrome and her foundation aimed at getting more kids

- Bike raffle –
We are raffling off a brand new Trek 24” geared mountain bike with
front shock from Gregg’s Cycles for one lucky winner valued at $380.
Raffle tickets are $5.00; winner must be present to win. Drawing to be
held at 3:00.
- A Mountain Bike Obstacle Course

Volunteer at the Bike Rodeo
We need volunteers to help us make the bike rodeo a success. We need
help with set-up, registration, running stations and clean-up. We are
also in need of 10 x 10 pop-up tents if you have one; please sign up to
bring it down or let us know.

Bike to School Month
Become a West Woodland Wheeler for Bike to School Month!
to School Month, sponsored by WW PTA and Cascade Bicycle Club, is a fun
event to encourage bicycle commuting and help new riders. When families
cycle to school, they:
- Build active, healthy habits into their daily routine,
- Reduce car traffic and air pollution,
- Help students become safe, competent cyclists.
May, students will tally minutes to and from school. Tally sheets will be posted out side each class with there names on them.
elementary schools with the highest total number of minutes biked
during the month of May will be featured in an article in the Cascade
Courier and receive the coveted Golden Pedal Award.
Additional incentives--with a focus on keeping kids safe and
active--will be awarded to students that participate at all levels of
engagement in Bike to School Month.
Bike to School Day is
Wednesday, May 6, 2015! Join hundreds of riders in the Seattle area and
thousands of other riders across the country on Bike to School Day.
Bike fairies will be on the job handing out special treat for
- up to 360 minutes: spoke sliders
- more than 360 minutes: reflective bike strap for your pant leg
- The Class with the highest tally their teacher wins a fitbit.
BIKE FAIRIES NEEDED!
We're always look for bike fairies to greet kid in the morning by
handing out stickers and chocolate kisses on days throughout the month
and especially on bike to school day.
