Bike to School Month is in Full Swing

Bike to School Day & Bike Rodeo Were Both a Huge Success
Posted on 05/10/2017
Thank you to everyone who came out to the West Woodland Bike Rodeo on Sunday. It was a huge success & many thanks to our amazing volunteers and sponsors that make this event possible!

We had 115 kids register for the event! & we now have lots of safer cyclists out there – helmets that fit, bikes tuned up & some new or polished cycling skills for our students. More than 100 kids completed all of the skills stations to earn a water bottle. & many kids spent lots of time cycling through our fun bike course in the field. The raffle was also a big success – including a lucky winner of a brand- new Cannondale mountain bike.

Bike Works donated their mechanics time for our event to provide safety tune-ups for everyone and our community donated eight bikes to them. This will benefit our overall community and allow kids to earn a bike through the Bike Works program. If you haven’t done so, please check out their organization. & thank you West Woodland families for your generosity!

Thank you to our Bike Rodeo sponsors Top Pot Doughnuts, Bike Works, Gregg’s Cycles, MFG Cyclocross & Nuun Sports Drinks

Thank you to our volunteers for these events: Todd Wagoner, John Baldauf, Dave Hmurovich, Laurie Demeritt, Jen Swantz, Katie Heinrich, Michelle Farnung, Heidi Kandathil, Kristen Gannon, Jim Gannon, Steve Matera, Denise Arcaya, Brian McManus, Cate Hmurovich, Jon Seversen, Marqui Seversen, Cynthia Lu Levine, Dayna Dealy, Soeren Eberhardt and many others.

Bike to School Day was also a success! We counted 217 bikes at the school! Thank you to Top Pot Doughnuts for again providing treats (and coffee for our staff). Thank you to Cascade Bike Club and AAA for providing volunteers and treats/prizes. It was a beautiful morning & the kid’s positive energy arriving to school was fantastic.

Please remind your students to log their cycling minutes in May! Please turn them in so West Woodland can try to win the 2017 Golden Pedal Award from Cascade Bike Club!
